Tuesday, April 19, 2016 was a momentous day for the 100 year old milk boat Welcome. Theboat had been stored for several years of by Sause Bros. in a nearby building on Front Street.
The project to preserve the Welcome was spearheaded by Mike Vaughan and Tom Leahy and successfully completed with the help of West Coast Heavy Hauling. The Coos Bay Boat Building Center under the leadership of board president Leahy assisted with relocating the Welcome. Also on hand to help with the move were board members Nick Jansen and Mike Leigh.
The Welcome not only picked up and delivered cans of milk; she also picked up students along Coos River and brought them into Marshfield for school.
